"Tai Pai Dong" in Central District
Characteristic
Gourmet outlets mushroomed out in Stanley Street, Gutzlaff Street, Elgin Street and Gage Street of Central district. Apart from the restaurants and bars offering ethnic cuisine and stylish decor which form part of the "SoHo" on Hong Kong Island, there are also the traditional "Tai Pai Dong". "Tai Pai Dong" are cooked food stalls at roadsides providing multifarious local cuisine at reasonable prices. As the Government has ceased to issue such licences, the existing "Tai Pai Dong" in Hong Kong are diminishing.
