Embracing the areas of hilly land to the west and north of Shing Mun Country Park, east of Route Twisk, Tai Mo Shan Country Park stretches from Tai Po Kau in the east, along the southern edge of Lam Tsuen Valley to include the main mass of Tai Mo Shan and covers an area of 1,640 hectares. The park is a very popular resort area for picnics and barbecues. At 958 m, Tai Mo Shan is a formidable challenge, and it is hardly surprising that it is known locally as Big Hat or Big Mist Mountain, depending on which Chinese character is used as its name. The barrier gate half way up commands spectacular views over Tsuen Wan and most of Kowloon in one direction and over the Lam Tsuen Valley and beyond to the hills of Guangdong Province in the other.
