Located in Tai Tam Country Park (Quarry Bay Extension), these relics of war-time cooking ranges were built by the government before World War II in order to provide food for local residents in anticipation of the possible war with the Japanese. It is said that because Hong Kong Island fell in only a few days' time, these cooking ranges had never been used.
