Western Market consisted originally of 2 separate blocks. The South Block at Queen's Road Central was built in 1858 and demolished in 1980. The remaining North Block, smaller and more compact in design, was built in 1906. The bandaged brickwork on the 4 corner towers adds colour to the Edwardian style structure. The market was converted to a shopping mall with a theme of traditional trades after a new market built nearby in 1989. It is a declared monument.
