The extension of the Hong Kong Society for the Blind Headquarters was completed in 2000. The west wing of the headquarters building is marked with red and white strips of painted walls. The new east wing of the headquarters is a white building. The headquarters serve as a centre to provide multi-services for the blind. The design of the headquarters aims to meet the needs of the visually impaired and the other clients better. Lifts and an open spiral stair are provided. On the 1st and 2nd floors, there are spacious lobbies for the clients waiting for out-patient eye care services. The main circulation is designed in a simple sweeping curve for easy access. Strong colours and textured finishing facilitate the visually impaired in orientation. Guided paths, textured floors and handrails are employed to assist the visually impaired users. Braille signs and audio systems are provided throughout the building.
