Chater Road between Peddar Street and Jackson Road is designated as a pedestrian precinct from 7am to 12 midnight every Sunday and public holiday. The road and the surrounding streets look completely different on Sundays and public holidays at the city centre when pedestrians can stroll at leisure or even sit down and chat on the road, which is very busy on usual days. The pedestrian precinct is packed with Filipino domestic helpers who gather here on their days off. Some also gather in Statue Square Gardens setting out picnics, reading, chatting and singing. Nearby attractions include the Legislative Council Building, Cenotaph and Chater Garden.
