Established in 1911, the University of Hong Kong is the oldest university in Hong Kong. The main campus occupies a site area of around 16 hectares on the hillsides above the western end of Hong Kong Island. The campus is constructed with buildings of different architectural styles, including Gothic, colonial, historic and modern, demonstrating a fine combination of the new and the old, as well as Chinese and Western styles. The University Street in the campus is a two-level walkway connecting the Main Campus to the Centennial Campus. The upper level of the walkway is specially designed with red floor tile and glass roof. In addition to 3 academic courtyards and the Centennial Garden of 4,000 sq m, many areas in the campus are furnished with tables, benches and greenery, offering plenty of relaxing sitting-out areas for teachers and students.
