Asia Society Hong Kong Center is formerly the Explosives Magazine Compound of the Victoria Barracks, comprising 4 structures built between 1853 and 1924. Opened in February 2012 after revitalization, the Center occupies a site area of 1.36 hectares. It is divided into the upper part and the lower part connected by a two-level footbridge, with palm trees planted in its exterior to give a taste of nature. Its design showcases a mixture of old and new architect. The low-rise blocks are characterised by red-tile rooftop, stone and granite walls, Chinese-style verandahs and teak doors, window frames and timbers. These old-style structures are well integrated with the Center's modern design and glass curtain entrance. There is also a rooftop garden where one can capture the views of skyscrapers in Hong Kong. The three blocks in the upper area are Grade I historic buildings whereas the administrative block in the lower area is Grade II historic building.
