In the past, Ma Hang Squatter area was popular for pig rearing, market gardening, cottage industries and fishing. In 1985, the Housing Department constructed a "working village" at Ma Hang to provide in-site rehousing for squatters. The construction of both Ma Hang Estate (5 low-rise rental blocks with 8-storey to 12-storey under the administration of Housing Department) and Lung Yan Court (6 residential blocks for sale) was completed in 1993 and 1999.
