Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences was opened in March 1996 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the building. With red-brick facades and broad corridors, it occupies the renovated 3-storey Edwardian style building used to be the Old Pathological Institute in Caine Lane. The green Chinese window frames and black pitch roofs of the complex touch up the buildings with Chinese elements. The courtyard provides a quiet and cozy venue with lots of plants. Various galleries and exhibits in the museum will facilitate members of the community to learn more about the science of health and disease, including past conquests, current developments and future challenges of special relevance to Hong Kong. The museum was declared a monument in 1990.
