Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence
Characteristic
Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is the city's only military museum converted from the hundred years' old Lyemun Fort on a headland 64 meters above sea level overlooking Lyemun Pass, with a total area of 34,200 square meters. The Museum is divided into the Reception Area, the Redoubt and the Lyemun Fort Historical Trail. The Reception area is the main entrance point to the Museum, where the carpark, reception hall, passengers' lifts and lecture hall, etc. can be found. The Redoubt is the core structure of the Museum covered by a specially designed tensile structure, which gives a unique look to the Museum. The Lyemun Fort Historical Trail has 24 checkpoints, including the Torpedo Station built in a cave on the shore, the Lyemun Redoubt on the hilltop, and batteries and caponiers.

How to Apply
Call before sending in the application form with information on the location, date, time, nature of activities, synopsis of the film, description of the scenes, props set to be used, size of the crew and cast, equipment list and a copy of the public liability insurance cover.
Processing time : 7 working days for simple/straightforward cases and payment by cash. 10 or more working days for complicated cases such as those involving consultation with relevant government departments/ property owners etc., and/or payment by cheque.
Fees
$6,870 (basic charge) for the first 4 hours, $1,935 for each subsequent 4-hour block and a refundable deposit equal to the fees payable.
If extra government personnel is required to assist in the filming, the actual cost plus overheads will be charged.
All fees and deposit are to be paid by crossed cheque at least 6 working days before filming.
PLI cover
Applicants shall effect a public liability insurance in the sum of $6.5 million to $30 million (depending on the risk level) in the joint names of the Government of the HKSAR and the company at their own expense, with terms and conditions to be approved by the Department.
Remarks
- Filming for commercial purposes inside the exhibition areas and security areas of the museum will not be accepted whereas other areas will be considered on individual merits.
- Filming can only take place on the museum closing days (i.e. Thursdays, except public holidays).
