Located at Shek Kwu Lung, Pun Chun Yuen was first developed as a lectorium for Buddhists to practise meditation in the early 1930s. The area was further developed in the 1950s with the construction of other structures, including the Great Buddha's Hall and the Halls for Goddess of Mercy (Kwun Yam) and the God of Earth. Since then, the beautiful landscape and setting of Pun Chun Yuen has made it a popular tourist attraction in Tai Po.
