In the early days, Apliu Street was full of duck sheds, or "ap liu" in Chinese. It has been developed into a flea market since the 1980s. The section of Apliu Street between Nam Cheong Street and Kwei Lin Street is well known for its roadside stalls selling electronic spare parts, electrical devices, hi-fi equipment, tape recorders, etc. Many of these stalls sell second hand electronic products. The place is also a favourite hangout for people interested in cheap watches, antique clocks and old coins. In sum, the stalls offer a wide variety of choices at relatively low prices. The stalls are generally open from noon till night time. The section between Yen Chow Street and Nam Cheong Street is a part-time pedestrian precinct during 12 noon - 9pm daily.
