Wang Fat Path in Yuen Long is around 30 m long and 6 m wide. After the British Army withdrew their troops in 1997, many Gurkhas who used to station at Shek Kong Barracks decided to stay in Hong Kong. Many Nepaleses, Indians and Indonesians are living in Yuen Long. In around year 2000, some started small grocery stores and restaurants on Wang Fat Path to serve their South Asian fellow villagers. Since then, many other restaurants, provision stores and fresh meat stalls opened by South Asians have flourished on both sides of Wang Fat Path, making it very much like a small South Asian community.
