Characteristic

Tin Hau Temple (Shau Kei Wan) was built at a time earlier than 1872. It is a traditional Chinese 2-hall structure decorated by delicate wall painting, wood engraving and pottery. According to legend, Tin Hau, the Heavenly Goddess had saved many people from disasters of the sea. Therefore, she is regarded by the seafaring folks as their patron saint.

How to Apply

Submit an application form with information on the location, date, time and a script of the scenes.

Processing time : normally 7 clear working days for applications lodged during March - November and 10 clear working days for applications lodged during December - February.

Fees

Administration fee
$1,000/ hour or part thereof with a minimum charge of $5,000

Service fee (including electricity charges)
$100/ hour or part thereof with a minimum charge of $500

(waived for public bodies and charitable institutions or trusts who are exempted under Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance).

PLI cover

Applicants are required to lodge with Chinese Temples Committee (CTC) a policy of at least $10 million public liability.

Remarks

No commercial filming at those temples designated as declared monuments or Grade I historic buildings except filming for the purpose of promoting Chinese temples, traditional culture, tourism or Hong Kong and for documentary.
Filming can only take place during 1000 - 1600 hours on Mondays to Fridays, except certain festival days and on the 1st and 15th day of each lunar month. On exceptional case that filming is to take place in other periods and on weekends and public holidays, the applicant should pay fees for staff working overtime. Filming is not permitted to last for more than 2 consecutive days.
The story or the relevant script shall not carry or reflect any disrespect to religious belief, nor shall it be of immoral, defamatory or political flavour. No deviation from the vetted script without prior consent of the CTC.
The applicant should not cause any undue disturbance to others.
The name of the temple (except with the prior written permission of CTC) and the close-up of any statue inside the temple shall not be featured. No blasphemous, obscene, violent or contemptuous act is allowed.
The use of explosives and pyrotechnic materials in filming is prohibited.
No alteration to the temple nor application of visual display materials tarnishing the image of the temple will be allowed.
A roller credit acknowledging the CTC should be shown at the end of the film.
The CTC reserves the right to revise the terms of filming without prior notice.
All applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
