Sze Lok Yuen is the 2nd youth hostel established in Hong Kong. The hostel is located at the summit of Tai Mo Shan, which is about 640 m high. It has been an experimental farm run by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department before being converted to a hostel in 1975. The small block structure was rebuilt for a warden's office and living quarters, the large block for a common room and a Nissen-hut for a male dormitory. A new female dormitory was built in 1981 and this was followed by 2 new multi-purpose blocks in 1988. It is about a 45-minute walk from the junction of Tai Mo Shan Road and Route Twisk (the stop near the Country Park Management Post) to the hostel.
